Alexandria/Bitash, Egypt

Alexandria is the second largest city in Egypt (Cairo is largest) and lies at the western edge of the Nile River.  It's a busy port city and houses the largest and oldest of the ancient libraries, established in the 3rd century BC.  The now destroyed, underwater lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, was built between 280-247 BC, and at over 100 meters in overall height it was one of the tallest manmade structures of the world.  Bitash is a seaside town just outside Alexandria with beautiful beaches.

I was only in  Egypt for two weeks, and that was enough for me.  I'm usually very into the history of a new place, but I found Bitash and Alexandria to be very dirty.  It wasn't just the sand, there was litter and garbage everywhere.  Looking past that you'll find very kind and friendly people.  I'm sure there are plenty of positives for both of these cities, but perhaps I just wasn't in the right mood to visit them.
